In English.
I woke up at 9:00. When I went up to the living room, no one was there, but something about the room felt off, like it had been left in a hurry. What happened? I called my mom, and she told me she was at my grandparents’ house (on my father’s side). Apparently, my grandfather had a hemorrhage and had to be rushed to the hospital.
While my mom was out, I took care of the laundry.
For breakfast, I had protein, a piece of bread topped with bacon, egg, and cheese, and yogurt. I was so sleepy. Probably because I ended up watching YouTube after writing my diary last night, and before I knew it, it was 2:30 AM when I finally got into bed. If I was going to stay up that late, I should have at least watched a movie or something.
Scrolling mindlessly through my Twitter timeline, I saw a post from SAIAKUNANA. I first came across her work back in high school when I saw her exhibit at Design Festa Gallery in Harajuku. I used to feel weird about seeing so many likes from people I follow, but moments like this—when a post randomly reminds me of something meaningful—make me appreciate it.
Speaking of SAIAKUNANA, I suddenly remembered the catalog… or maybe it was more like an autobiography? I had sold the book at a local Book-Off(Book-Off is Japanese recycle shop.) a while ago, but now I wanted to read it again. Would they still have it?
I left home early and headed straight to Book-Off. It had been over a year since I sold it, so the chances were slim, but… There it was. My eyes met the book, and I immediately bought it.
Since I was still early for work, I stopped by the nearest smoking area for a cigarette. Smoking before work is essential. It makes me feel light-headed but also sharp, like my brain is waking up. As I smoked, I got the sudden urge to update my scrapbook. I wanted to fill the entire screen with all my favorite things. It’s tricky to arrange everything just right, but I love the process. I’ve been working on this scrapbook since university, yet I still haven’t finished a single book.
After the morning meeting, I was about to start my shift when my manager suddenly stopped me.
“Here is last month’s GS Award, Ms. $$$.”
Apparently, the “GS Award” is given to the staff member who did the best overall job that month. This is the first I’m hearing of it. But I received a Thermos water bottle with the store’s logo on it as a prize. Wow. That’s actually really nice.I’m way too simple—something like this motivates me instantly.
During my first break, I went to the supermarket and bought some side dishes. I didn’t have time to make a proper bento, but I had brought frozen rice, so I just threw the side dishes on top and made a quick rice bowl. White meat and fish sauce over rice—delicious.
I don’t really remember my second break, but on my way home, I chatted with my senpai about how hungry I was.
“I’m starving!” she said.
Playing it cool, I replied, “If there were more people around, I would’ve invited you out for ramen nearby!”
“Then let’s find a day when everyone’s shifts match up and go!”
And just like that, it was decided. I wondered if I had been a little too forward, but honestly, I was just excited about it, so it’s fine.
I biked home, ate leftover chige nabe with ramen noodles, and took a bath. I left my hair soaking in treatment for a long time, then applied a face mask after getting out.
Perfect. I look amazing today.Even though I had already done some stretching and butt workouts in the morning, I did them again before bed.Too perfect.
Because of my greatness, I’m going to bed early tonight.
Good night.
